This page lists 12 free calculators and converters for platinum (Pt, atomic number 78, CAS 7440-06-4) and the other platinum group metals, by job: value, units and price tracking. Every value calculator pulls from the live platinum price, for platinum (Pt), element 78. None of the top-ranking calculator pages covers more than two metals or a PGM unit such as the tola, making this the only PGM-complete set in its search results.

Value and Purity Calculators

Tool

Platinum Value Calculator

Calculate platinum value by weight, unit and purity (999.5, 950, 900, 850) against the live spot price, with a transparent formula and no dealer mark-up built in.

Tool

Platinum Scrap Calculator

Calculate platinum scrap value from weight, unit and purity, from Pt850 to Pt999. Convert grams, troy ounces, pennyweight, tola and kilograms at the live spot price.

Tool

Catalytic Converter PGM Value Calculator

Estimate a catalytic converter's scrap value from its platinum, palladium and rhodium content, today's spot prices, payable percentage and refining charges.

Weight and Unit Converters

Tool

Troy Ounce Converter

Convert troy ounces to grams, kilograms and avoirdupois ounces with the exact factor (31.1034768 g), and see why platinum and gold are weighed in troy ounces, not standard ounces.

Tool

Tola Converter

Convert tola to grams and troy ounces with the exact factor (11.6638038 g = 0.375 troy oz), and see why 10 g, 12 g and 100 g are not 1 tola.

Tool

Grams to Troy Ounces Converter

Convert grams to troy ounces (and back) with the exact 31.1034768 g factor, a conversion table and the difference from the everyday avoirdupois ounce.

What These Platinum and PGM Calculators Do#

DailyPlatinum's tools fall into three groups: value and purity calculators, weight and unit converters, and price tracking tools. The value group turns a weight and a purity or PGM content into an estimated value. The converter group turns one mass unit into another. The tracking group watches a live price rather than computing one.

Value and Purity Calculators#

The value and purity calculators convert a weight and a purity or PGM content into an estimated value, without acting as a live price feed. Four tools cover bullion, scrap, baskets and catalytic converters, each priced differently: bullion by purity, scrap by assay, a basket by several metals, a converter by empirical average.

Tool What it calculates Link
Platinum value calculator Weight times purity times the live platinum price platinum value calculator
Platinum scrap calculator Item weight times purity, converted to a scrap value estimate platinum scrap calculator
PGM basket calculator (4E, 6E) Basket composition times each metal's price, summed to a basket value PGM basket calculator
Catalytic converter PGM value calculator Platinum, palladium and rhodium content estimate, converted to a value catalytic converter PGM value calculator

A 4E basket holds platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold; a 6E basket adds ruthenium and iridium, and osmium sits in neither. Only platinum, palladium and rhodium occur in a catalytic converter in meaningful quantity, per SFA (Oxford) and Johnson Matthey's PGM Market Report, May 2026.

How to Use the Platinum Value Calculator#

Use the platinum value calculator by entering a weight, selecting a purity such as 999, 950 or 900, and reading the resulting value.

  1. Enter the item's weight, in grams, troy ounces or another supported unit.
  2. Select the purity: Pt999, Pt950 or Pt900.
  3. Read the value against the live price, before any dealer premium or refining deduction.

Weight and Unit Converters#

The weight and unit converters convert between troy ounces, grams, kilograms, pennyweight, tola and troy pounds, the units PGM prices and payouts are quoted in. Six converters span the metric, troy and regional systems, including the Indian tola.

Converter Converts Link
Troy ounce converter Troy ounces to and from grams, kilograms and avoirdupois ounces troy ounce converter
Pennyweight converter Pennyweight (dwt) to and from grams and troy ounces pennyweight converter
Tola converter Tola to and from grams and troy ounces tola converter
Kilogram to troy ounce converter Kilograms to and from troy ounces kilogram to troy ounce converter
Grams to troy ounces converter Grams to and from troy ounces grams to troy ounces converter
Troy pound converter Troy pounds to and from troy ounces and grams troy pound converter

One troy ounce equals exactly 31.1034768 grams, 9.7% heavier than the 28.349523125-gram avoirdupois ounce. One kilogram equals 32.1507466 troy ounces. The tola, fixed at exactly 0.375 troy ounce (11.6638038 grams) by Regulation VII of 1833, remains a legacy platinum trade unit across South Asia.

More Platinum and PGM Resources#

Platinum and PGM tools connect to three core sections: live prices, scrap and recycling, and investing. The scrap platinum group metals section covers selling scrap, and investing in platinum compares bars, coins, ETFs and futures.

Price Tracking Tools#

The price tracking tools send an alert when a price is crossed and embed a live PGM price feed on another site. One sends the alert; the other embeds the feed for a publisher.

Platinum price alerts Emails when a set price is crossed platinum price alerts
Free PGM price widget and data feed Embeds a live PGM price feed on another site free PGM price widget

What These Calculators Do Not Do#

These calculators do not replace a physical assay, price a catalytic converter from its code alone, or state a live price without a source and timestamp.

  • Assay: a calculator estimates value from a stated purity; only a physical assay measures actual fine content.
  • Identification code: a converter's code does not encode its PGM content; every code is only an empirical average from prior assays.
  • Source and timestamp: every live price on these tools carries its own source and update time.
