DailyPlatinum's editorial policy governs how facts are sourced, verified, flagged and corrected across every page on the site, from live price widgets to element and compound pages. DailyPlatinum's methodology sets out the data feeds and verification steps this policy describes; this page states the rules those steps follow.
How DailyPlatinum Sources Facts#
Every fact on this site comes from a primary source (an exchange, a benchmark administrator, a producer or refiner, an official body) or a named secondary source, never from unstated general knowledge. A primary source publishes the figure itself; a secondary source reports on a primary figure, such as a trade publication summarizing a producer's results. A newer official source always takes precedence over an older one and over any internal reference file.
Four source types cover every fact, each cited by name in its sentence.
- Primary exchanges and benchmark administrators: auctioned or settlement prices.
- Producers and refiners: production reports and base-price schedules.
- Official government or tax bodies: customs notices, VAT and GST schedules.
- Academic and industry research bodies: market-council reports and peer-reviewed studies.
The table adds a worked example for each type and where it is typically cited.
| Source type | Example | Typically cited in |
|---|---|---|
| Primary exchange or benchmark administrator | A benchmark administrator's auctioned price, a futures exchange's settlement price | Price and price-history pages |
| Producer or refiner quote | A mining company's quarterly production report, a refiner's base-price schedule | Market and producer pages |
| Official government or tax body | A customs notification setting an import duty, a tax authority's VAT or GST schedule | Country price pages |
| Academic or industry research body | A market-council quarterly report, a peer-reviewed study on PGM chemistry or environmental fate | Market, chemistry and applications pages |
A fact fitting none of these four types is not published.
How Facts Are Verified and Flagged#
A claim is published only after it passes DailyPlatinum's verification step, and is marked "flagged" wherever it could not be independently confirmed, rather than presented as settled. Verification checks a claim against its cited source and, where one exists, a second source; a claim that fails this check is published with its uncertainty stated, or held back.
Four status labels cover every fact on the site, shown in the table below with what each one means and a worked example.
| Status label | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| OK | Confirmed against its primary or named secondary source, stated without qualification | A benchmark administrator's published auction price for a given date |
| Flagged | Could not be independently confirmed; stated as uncertain or omitted | A figure found on only one aggregator site with no matching primary source |
| Single-source | Confirmed by exactly one publisher; stated with that publisher named in the sentence | A mint's own mintage figure for a limited coin issue |
| Excluded | Contradicted, unsupported or superseded; not published at all | A superseded duty rate after a newer customs notice takes effect |
Single-Source Facts#
A single-source fact is published only with its source named in the same sentence, for example platinum's CAS number, 7440-06-4, sourced to PubChem. Platinum (Pt), element 78, carries that identity across every page that names the metal; its full properties are covered on platinum (Pt), element 78.
Never Mixing Data Bases#
Two organizations' figures are never combined in one calculation when they use different definitions, such as Johnson Matthey's and the World Platinum Investment Council's platinum demand totals. The two bases scope mine supply and demand differently, so mixing figures from each produces a number neither organization would recognize. DailyPlatinum states each figure on its own basis, named in the sentence, as the platinum group metals market page does, listing both houses' balances side by side on platinum group metals market.
How Prices Are Handled#
DailyPlatinum never hard-codes a live price into an article: live prices appear only in the price widget, and every historical price point carries its series, date and source. The widget reads a live feed at request time; historical figures, by contrast, are dated points, each attributed to a named series such as a benchmark auction, a futures settlement or a producer's base price. The same dating rule covers duty: every regulatory, tax or duty figure cited on the site carries its instrument and effective date.
Live and historical figures draw on different feeds and conversions. Platinum price data sources are documented on price data sources. Platinum group metal prices today, for platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium and osmium, are listed together on platinum group metal prices today, each on its own basis: an exchange spot quote for platinum and palladium, and a dealer quote, named by institution, for the rest.
Independence and Funding#
DailyPlatinum is funded by advertising and referral fees, disclosed on the pages where they appear, and reports prices the same way regardless of any advertiser or referral partner. Referral fees come from scrap-buying, refining, industrial quote requests and bullion-dealer referrals, and a smaller share of revenue comes from data products.
No commercial relationship changes a published figure, a verification outcome or a correction. More about DailyPlatinum, and who writes for it, is on about DailyPlatinum.
Corrections#
A correction is dated and applied directly to the affected page; no fact changes without a record. When an error is confirmed, the affected page is updated and its reviewed date moves to the date of the correction, so a returning reader can see that the page changed and roughly when.
A correction is checked the same way as a new fact before it replaces the old version.
What DailyPlatinum Will Not Publish#
DailyPlatinum does not publish ring-shopping advice, catalytic-converter repair or replacement guides, or platinum-drug dosing information. These borders keep the site inside the platinum group metals as a market and a set of elements. Four categories sit outside the site, listed below.
- Jewelry retail advice: ring sizing, engagement-shopping guidance or retailer comparisons; jewelry appears only as a purity or demand topic.
- Catalytic-converter repair or replacement: converter PGM content is a scrap-value topic here, not a repair guide.
- Platinum-drug dosing or side effects: platinum compounds used in medicine are named only as compounds, never with dosing guidance.
- Unrelated "platinum" products: platinum-branded credit cards, platinum blonde hair color, platinum record certifications and similar non-metal uses of the word.
Contact and Report an Error#
Readers can report a suspected error using the form on this page, routed to the editorial team. The form asks for the page, the claim, a suggested correction and a source, and the team named on DailyPlatinum's methodology reviews every report.
Editorial Policy FAQ#
Does DailyPlatinum use artificial intelligence to write articles?#
Research and drafting use structured tools under editorial review; content is never published as, or attributed to, an invented individual expert. Every page carries the byline "DailyPlatinum Editorial Team."
Does an advertiser ever see a page before it is corrected?#
No: editorial decisions and corrections are made independently of any advertiser or referral partner, before or after a page is live. An advertiser's placement has no role in what a page states or when it is corrected.
How do I report an error?#
Use the error-report form on this page, naming the page, the claim and the correct value with a source. Those three fields let the editorial team verify the report before acting on it.
What does "single-source" mean on this site?#
A single-source fact is one confirmed by only one publisher, so it is stated with that publisher's name in the same sentence rather than as settled fact. A fact confirmed by two or more publishers carries no such qualification.
